Becoming a Mason
Membership in Freemasonry is by application, not invitation. If you're a man of good character asking these questions, that's the first sign it might be for you.
Who can join
Generally, a candidate must be:
- A man of at least 18 years of age
- Of good moral character and reputation
- A believer in a Supreme Being (Freemasonry is not a religion and does not require a specific faith)
- Applying of his own free will, without persuasion
Requirements are set by the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. See the official PA Masons — Join page for the current, authoritative list.
What it costs
Lodges set their own initiation fees and annual dues to cover the cost of running the lodge and supporting our charitable work. [Add Vaux Lodge's current initiation fee and annual dues here, along with any payment plan options.]
Ask us — we're glad to talk through the details with anyone considering membership.
The Process
Four steps to membership
1. Ask
Reach out, visit us for dinner, and meet the brothers. No commitment yet — just conversation.
2. Apply
Submit a petition for membership, sponsored by two current members.
3. Meet the Lodge
An investigating committee gets to know you, then the lodge votes on your petition.
4. Begin the Degrees
Upon a favorable vote, you'll begin the three degrees of Freemasonry.
